It is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the Department of Botany and Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Cairo University. This distinguished academic and research department has, for decades, been one of the fundamental pillars of scientific excellence within the Faculty and a well-established institution for educating generations of scientists, researchers, and specialists capable of making meaningful contributions to science, society, and the nation. The Department of Botany and Microbiology holds a distinguished position among the Faculty’s academic departments due to its rich diversity of knowledge and research in the fields of plant sciences and microbiology, as well as their specialized disciplines and modern applications related to environmental sustainability, health, agriculture, biotechnology, and advanced technologies. Accordingly, the Department is committed to fostering a comprehensive academic environment based on excellence in education, rigor in scientific research, and dedication to the University's mission of advancing knowledge and shaping the future. Our vision is founded on the firm belief that science is the cornerstone of sustainable development and that the university is not merely an educational institution, but also a center for intellectual growth, knowledge production, and innovation. Therefore, the Department continuously develops its academic and research programs in line with global scientific advancements, empowering students and researchers to address contemporary challenges through a stimulating scientific environment that integrates solid academic foundations, practical training, modern technologies, and interdisciplinary applications. The Department takes pride in its distinguished faculty members, teaching assistants, and researchers, whose dedication over many years has strengthened the Department's scientific reputation and reinforced its academic and research standing at the local, regional, and international levels. It is also proud of its significant research contributions in areas that address societal needs and national development priorities, including applied microbiology, microbial biotechnology, biodiversity, mycology, environmental and industrial microbiology, and other emerging fields that play a vital role in building a knowledge-based economy and promoting sustainable scientific solutions. One of the Department's highest priorities is preparing graduates who excel academically, professionally, and ethically, equipped with critical thinking skills, sound scientific research capabilities, creativity, and innovation. Graduates are prepared to meet labor market demands and pursue postgraduate studies and advanced research with competence and confidence. As Head of this distinguished Department, I take great pride in belonging to this long-established academic institution.
