The Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science, Cairo University, is one of the fundamental pillars of scientific advancement in Egypt and the Arab world. Since its establishment in 1925, it has served as a leading center for education and scientific research across all branches of physics. For nearly a century, the Department has graduated generations of scientists and researchers who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the physical sciences both within Egypt and internationally. It has also served the community through scientific applications with a direct impact on industry, energy, communications, and modern technology. This distinction is attributed to the Department’s distinguished academic staff, who established strong research schools in a wide range of disciplines, including condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, theoretical physics, laser physics, and nanotechnology. These research activities have strengthened the Department’s reputation at both the regional and international levels and enabled it to establish effective scientific partnerships with leading universities and research institutions. The Department has also played a pioneering role in supporting the establishment and development of specialized scientific institutions, including the National Institute of Laser Enhanced Sciences and the Faculty of Graduate Studies for Nanotechnology. This reflects its forward-looking vision and commitment to keeping pace with global advances in cutting-edge sciences. Beyond its academic role, the Department actively contributes to community development by providing scientific expertise and consultancy services, as well as participating in national projects that support the country's economic development.
